Her Story Review
Table of Contents
While searching for a game to practice English, I came across this game.
Having (?) cleared it, I'm writing a review.
Note that in an effort to avoid spoilers, this article has become almost devoid of content.
Overall rating: +1 (Recommended!)
Among the myriad of games on Steam, it's fair to call this one a bizarre work.
We might need to start by considering whether it can even be called a game.
Whether it suits you or not depends entirely on the individual, but I found it interesting.
I recommend playing without any prior information.
Overview
I won't write it because it would be a spoiler.
Good Points
Above all, what's distinctive is its game system.
There's no explanation and it progresses in a way unlike anything else, so it's nothing but confusing, but it's clever how you come to understand what needs to be done.
Because the system is "this", it has high freedom and progression varies from person to person, but the parts that approach the core are properly difficult.
For example, in open-world games, areas with valuable equipment have stronger enemies placed there to maintain game balance.
Something similar seems to be happening in this work as well, which I found intriguing.
In terms of difficulty adjustment being implemented, this can truly be called a game.
Also, subtle visual effects and elements unrelated to the main plot create a flavorful atmosphere.
There are also some small gags, and those familiar with the early days of the internet might enjoy it more.
Not So Good Points
It's just so unique that it's unclear what constitutes clearing the game.
As a result, I didn't get much sense of achievement. It feels unresolved...
The scenario itself is not particularly noteworthy, and I felt it could have been more intricate.
It might be said that we can look forward to subsequent works.
There are also many unfamiliar words and place names, so personally, I would have rated it higher if it had been more like a Japanese mystery novel.
While the game balance is not bad overall, there are also things that are impossible without prior knowledge and no hints.
I wish they had connected things a bit more or increased conversations, and removed extremely short ones.
While it might be useful for studying English because of the subtitles, I can't recommend it unless you're quite confident.
I hear there's also a Japanese subtitle patch available, so those who want to enjoy the game should use it.
Summary
This review has truly become contentless, but it can't be helped as I avoided spoilers.
If you're looking for an unusual game, why not give it a try?
In terms of the system, I think it might be particularly enjoyable for escape room game enthusiasts.
